OUR FARM, OUR STORY

How it all began

The journey began with two brothers, a papa, and an uncle setting an intention to buy a small chunk of land close to Roseburg, Oregon. In 2017 the perfect piece of property was found in rural Elkton, OR. This area is beautiful, great for growing mostly anything, and just remote enough being only 45 minutes from Roseburg. The land had been uninhabited by people for quite some time. Their business, Pfau Farms, started to take shape after countless hours of mowing and weeks of hacking blackberries. Both brothers are skilled handymen and hard workers, and they began the process of fixing up the seven acres with the help of the family. After making a name for themselves in the local town as carpenters, the Pfau brothers still had the dream and the drive to make the farm profitable. After moving out to Elkton and starting the farm, the Pfau family underwent a baby boom with eight new grandkids in four years! With that new life energy, a vision started to form.

The vision: What if we started growing and selling culinary mushrooms?

In 2020 we grew our first DIY box kits of Oyster and Lion’s Mane mushrooms. Not only did we find the process fun and entertaining, but the product was delicious and left us feeling energized. That's when the wheels really started turning; creating a family business on the farm is what we aim to do. So here we are, daring ourselves to dream big and start ourselves a mushroom farm!

Welcome to our Journey. We’re so excited to have you along for the ride. Please get in touch with us and send us any words of encouragement to uvmfarms@gmail.com. We're hoping to have our first big flush of Lions Mane mushrooms at the end of November. If you're at all interested in ordering, get on the release list so we can send out an announcement. Also if you're itching to grow some on your own, we can help supply you with the materials to do so and give you enough information to make it a success. For the love of Fungi, let’s put the power of growing our own food and medicine in the hands of the people.
